I wasn't as nice to the other proggies I've used in the past: Pro Tools, Cubase and Cakewalk. I don't plan on completely jumping ship from Logic anytime in the near future. It's kinda nice to take a fresh look at the material, and I love the mixing workflow that Harrison has created. From here on out though, I think I'll be doing my mixing in MixBus. I love the audio editing features and midi goodness that Logic gives me. I've used and will continue to use Logic for everything but mixing. I haven't done these tasks in MixBus, and the lack of midi will keep me from using MixBus for these things. I'm saying I do all of my composing, tracking and editing in is Logic.

The software that they also make that I gushed (sortof) over is Logic. The company that made an OS on top of open source software that I was talking about was Apple. Sorry, I was a little vague with what I was trying to get across there. It looks like there's some nice info here.Ĭompared to? Logic? PT? Nuendo? OK then, if you're not a rep for Harrison, it would be interesting to hear - as a former studio owner - the criteria which leads you to make such a tacit endorsement. I just don't think they got the mixing workflow quite right. They also make the software that I think is the best for composing, recording, and editing music. I can think of a company that is building their OS on top of open source software and has made a great contribution to the community. These guys are spending a lot of money and resources supporting open source software, which is a cause that I strongly believe in. This was done by a company with a pedigree that knows the best way to mix. The old mixing ITB paradigm was designed by software engineers and not people familiar with mixing. The only interest that I have is in trying to support this great effort made by a company that's new to NLEs.

I don't know how to convey that I don't work for Harrison other than to say: trust me. It dawned on me about halfway through typing my post that I would be accused of this. I realize that reps from companies lurk in forums like these just waiting for someone to dis (do the kids still say dis?) their product so they can drop in some official talking points to balance out opinion. Maybe I should try to use some more cool advertising words like: Harrison MixBus' realish analog mixer looking knobs are the delicious and refreshing way to loose weight. I know I should really get into advertising. Yeah, thats the best sales pitch I've EVER HEARD. I don't want your tracks sounding as good as mine. I strongly encourage everyone to give MixBus a try.actually, I take that back. The pedigree behind Record (audio toy manufacturer) is also apparent, in a bad way. I realize why everyone wants to compare this program to the PropellerHeads proggy, but from my (limited) tests I can tell you that there is no comparison. I believe this will make it the first program to do this without the use of plugins. It also has latency compensation for external effects units.

Version 1.1 of MixBus, which is still in testing, has full latency compensation throughout. So when you move beyond the built in busses and have to use Ardour's busses you don't get that feature. Ardour (the program that MixBus is built on) doesn't have latency compensation. There is full latency compensation on the Harrison mixer busses. The person who did that test screwed something up. Noone (myself included) has been able to reproduce the NULLing mixes from any app with mixbus. Slamthecrank gave the highlights of the early stages of a thread on GearSlutz (the thread is now at 35 pages and the skeptics are dying off there). Does it sound as good as an analog Harrison console? NO. I don't know about having a real console in the box, but what ever is in there sounds great. You wouldn't believe how much this can speed up a mix.Īs far as the marketing goes, like with all products, you have to separate the language from the fact. This is a far more intuitive approach than having to open EQ and compression in separate windows. I love having the EQ and dynamics easily available in the mixer window.

With the two projects that I've moved from logic to mixbus, I was able to get a nicer sounding mix in much less time with fewer plugins. The mixes I've done on it sound much better than I can get out of logic. This is a fantastic sounding piece of software. I read what you guys were saying and thought I would balance the opinions on this thread out a little (so there you go.full transparency). I found this thread doing a quick google search on Harrison Mixbus.
